Museum of folk architecture and way of life on the precarpation region

The museum under the opened sky is structural subdivision of the National preserve «Davniy Halych». It is on the territory of old city of Halych, on the first line of billows of defensives, opposite the natural boundary of Prokaliiv’s garden. This ait of folk architecture acquaints visitors with architecture and way of life of habitants of Pricarpathian region at the end of the XVII-th century and the beginning of the XX-th century. The buildings which are on the territory of the museum testify about the originality of Ukrainian folk architecture and at the same time about his indissoluble relations with traditions of the building culture of slavonic people. On the area of 4,5 hectares buildings of micro villages of four ethnographic districts of the Pricarpathian region is presently completed: Pokuttya, Hutsul'schyna, Boykivshchyna and Opillya. Each of these areas is skillfully planed in microrelief of locality, brought in order by small architectural forms. There are many ethnographic relicts – articles of life and way of life of our ancestors in the interiors of sights. Many architectural exhibits are given not as farmsteads – architectural ensemble of dwelling-productions of a rural building of the past, but as single typical standards of housing, economic and production buildings. Presently 11 architectural sights which present the different types of housing and economic building are set in a museum. The region of Pokuttya is represented by a traditional Pokuttya farmstead of the end of the XVII-th century and the beginning of the XX-th century (transported from the village of Torgovytsya in Gorodenka district) which consists of house, basket for corn, well-crane, gate and so on. There is a collection of the tableware in a Pokuttya house (dishes, pots, mugs and jugs).

Besides, in this region were there are also production buildings for making sunflower oil of XIX-th century from the village of Olesha district of Tlumach. It acquaints visitors with the process of making of sunflower oil.

Two huts-grazda from ethnographic Hutsulshchyna Verkhovyna district were brought at the end of the XIX century from the village of Ustericy and also a typical hutsul house of the 40th, which was transported from the town of Vorokhta Nadvirnyansk district of the XX-th century. It is the three-chambered habitation, which consists of two rooms and a barn. In the Vorokhta house there is an operating loom on which they made carpets and Hutsul clothes.

Hutsul hut-grazhda
is the reserved building with a house, barn, additional buildings, that were characteristic for housing building of that period. It enables to find out the row of traditional receptions of habitation in Hutsulshchyna. The main building of the court is a house which consists of two apartments, parted by the barn. A basic build material is wood. A building roof is covered with dranytcya.

Region of Boykivshchyna demonstrates the traditional house in 1878, the date is on the tap of the axis of the house, from the village of Polyanytsya Dolyna district. It is the three-chambered smoked house. There are yarns and spinning - wheels. In one of the rooms there is the display of a thingle-classroom school – “dyakivka”. The most numerous collections of folk fabrics, embroideries and clothes are here as well.

Opillya is presented by a farmstead house of the weaver of the middle of the XIX-th century transported from the village of Vikhtoriv of Halych district. Here is the collection of embroidery from the villages of Rohatyn and Halych districts. They are women’s and masculine shirts, table cloths, sheets, overcoats for pillows, and also folk clothes for everyday and holiday. In economic building - facilities of transport and tools are proposed in a barn.

In this region there is also a wooden church of the XX-th century from the village of Poplavnyky and the erection of a smithy of the XIX-th century from the village of Tenetnyky district of Halych. There is also a very large collection of Opillya embroidery - womanish and masculine shirts, table cloths, sheets, overcoats for pillows, and also folk clothes - masculine and womanish, for everyday and holiday.

Houses in the museum of folk architecture and way of life of the Pricarpathian are all original, presented as the standards of the habitation of the Prikarpathian people. On the area of the museum they are set in the proper thematic context. An exception is made really that by separate exhibits - small architectural forms which in villages collapse very quickly, because as a rule they were built from less high-quality materials. Exhibits to the interiors of houses are also collected in accordance with the specific of regions.
In the nearest time on the territory of the museum the building of water-mill, hutsul church is planned to be built, coaching inn, entrance tower and others like that.
